Wakasa Lacquer is qualified Japanese Traditional Handicraft in Obama City in Fukui prefecture.
It is known for its beautiful details and time-consuming work. Each product has 20-50 thin layers of lacquer and gold leaf. The famous patterns are created by eggshells, seashells, pine needles, and seeds which applied in between the lacquer layers, and the designs appears as it is whetted by whetstone. It takes about 6 months to complete all the procedures.

A set of Japanese black lacquered ceremonial food boxes with gorgeous hand painted gold Peonys and Chrysanthemums.
4 stacking boxes with 2 lids and it comes with an original wooden strage box.
The 4th box (bottom box) has small cracks but no problem for use.
It is dated at the bottom of the storage box which reads 4th year in Bunsei era(1821), Edo period. HOLD

1 round cake box, 1 large plate, 5 small plates, and 5 forks which were used at tea ceremony to serve Japanese sweets.
All the plates and box have hand painted peony with gold lacquer.
It is in great condition.
Taisho to early Showa period. (earlier 1900s)
