HY152
HY152Edo Period,( 1615-1868) Japanese Temple Bishamonten. The finest Bishamonten I have seen at auction in Many years here in Japan. Museum quality. Although the Deity appears to be black he is Completely gold underneath the hundreds of years of Incense Patina. Could be cleaned but I always advise this not be done. Both Demon and Bishamonten have hand blown Glass eyes.

Bishamonten is the Defender of the Nation, Guardian of the Dharma (Buddhist Law), and Lord of Wealth and Treasure (hence his inclusion in the Japanese group of Seven Lucky Gods). This armor-clad, weapon-wielding, demon-stomping deity was introduced to Japan in the 6th century AD as one of the four Shitenn? (Four Heavenly Kings Protecting the Four Directions)
