Collected at an auction in Kyoto, Japan.
Daruma: was a very famous monk. He traveled around China and studied Zen Buddhism and eventually established Zen Buddhism in Japan in 1200's.
There are a lot of legend about him in Japan. One of the most famous stories is that he said,"If you knock me down 7 times, I will stand up 8 time." This reflects that he was very strong and confident.
