Japanese Antique Ofuku (Otafuku) Doll

Ofuku is one of Japanese favorite good luck bringer figure. Displayed frequently in shop windows.
This character is founded in Sarugaku (origin of Noh play) as an ordinary woman. A woman with small nose, large forehead, plumped cheeks were symbol of happiness, wealth, and beauty in ancient days in Japan. Also her name "Fuku" means happiness.
There is a temple in Kyoto warships Ofuku, and she is enshrined as guardian deity of houses and buildings.

This earthenware Ofuku figure is very old. Some of her painting is gone because many people have been rubbing her for good luck. Her topknot is missing.
Circa early 20th century.

Amazing quality cast bronze incense burner collected at Japanese auction.
Circa mid-late Edo period (18th-19th century)
Shishi is translated as "lion" but it can also refer to a dog with magical properties and the power to repel evil spirits.
The open mouth, along with the pierced ball, indicate a male shishi, representing the Yang, male, and active principle of the universe.

The ball he is holding has design of peony flowers. Shishi (king of all animals) and peony (king of all flowers) are often used together for kimono motif, samurai armor decoration, painting themes, etc...

It is in excellent condition.

A beautiful old Tiger Okimono, one of a kind earthenware with unique face and posture.
There are several very old repair which show the piece was adored by the owner for long time.
The tail seems newer than the body.
It comes in an original wooden box.
Mid-late Edo period. Unknown artist.( Most Early and Mid Edo Okimono pieces were not signed.
