Looks like the worst is over and things have begun to pick up here at Kyoto Asia Galleries. In 2010 we were able to open a new Warehouse in Great Barrington Massachusetts. It will be Open Every Year from June 15th until Sept 15th.
The International Dealers are coming back to our Kyoto warehouse after almost 2 years of luke warm business. I have been in the Auctions in Japan buying to fill the warehouse here and prepare for my Shipments to the East Coast,( Great Barrington warehouse) in May. I have been getting some great screens, Scrolls, Furniture and the usual oddities from Japan. Here are a few hundred of the New arrivals from the last 3 months of buying.

Yes its going on five months now since I started this Asian buying trip. The ol’three month trips are long gone. To find authentic pieces in Asia now takes a lot of time and patience. Anyway, I have done well so far.,(We will be updating the website with Southeast Asian artifacts etc.. in about 3 weeks stay tuned) I am now in China and soon to leave. I have done some extensive travel in Burma and most of the Thai Burmese border areas. Stayed in a Ahka Village near the Burmese border,( over two hours straight up into the mountains from the Burmese border). No electricity so they do all there cooking over an open fire in their houses,( Huts) . The only meat they had was Black Dog so I ate only vegetables and smoked a little. My friend of over 20 years is an Ahka dude and speaks English,Ahka and Thai. Which is good because they only speak Ahka there,( No Thai) So far it has been very difficult to find authentic Buddhas,( 99.999% copies). Have a few I picked up in Burma but that’s it. Found a few beautiful Nats and some amazing Opium Pipes,( 2 of the best I have ever found, Top notch tools and great dampers, Even a 19th century pipe cleaner ,,complete),,,( The pipes etc,, will be updatedon the site in 2 weeks when I get back to Japan). A good percentage of the Japanese antiques are already on the website Lets see what else,,,, Spun my jeep on a mountain road on the Burmese border during a wicked monsoon downpour. Complete 360. It woke me up enough to pull of the road and sleep a bit. It was 12 AM and had about 70 miles to the nearest town so it was just as well. I was able to find a lot of antique funky stuff, ( 1920′s-30′s Thai Glass monkey’s, Shan state masks,( 1950s) , 300 year old Ivory Shan ceremonial dagger handle, 18th and 19th century Silver shan prayer books,( 4 pc) almost impossible to find now. Got them all from 1 temple in the Shan State. Burmese folk art,( 30′s -40′s),,, I can go on but you’ll fall a sleep. So see some of you in San Francisco in October and some of you in Kyoto in about two weeks. The rest of you please stay in touch, Thanks Rhett
